Day 69, bike repair in Bozeman
This trip has put at least 2000 miles of wear on my bike, although that number is probably close to 3000.
My poor chain was stretched and should have been replaced a while ago.
Bozeman conveniently has a co-op bike shop, which is where I spent my off day.
I replaced the chain and the fender strut that broke on the rocky road to Philipsburg - an easy repair. The co-op sold new chains and I found a replacement strut in their bucket of spare things.
Unfortunately, and completely expected, my drive train slipped constantly with the new chain. This is caused by wear on the cassette.
I searched the bucket again for a replacement cassette and decided on one with seven gears, much larger than my current setup. The lower gear ratio will help me climb those hills!
So, I took everything apart (again) and replaced the cassette.
I took a short ride to a local brewery to test the new setup and sample some local beer.
All good so far.
