Before leaving Bryce Canyon, I wanted to say farewell to the excellent camp hosts, Dennis & Nancy.
Unfortunately (for me, not for them), it was their day off, and they were already out of town.
The road north from Bryce Canyon was a welcome change from endless traffic. I think I saw a car every thirty minutes or so.
There were tons of horses and cattle though. Some even in the road. I approached this horse because it seemed to take interest in the bicycle. Most of the cows just ran away.
I passed a cafe in Antimony that I hoped to grab some coffee, but they closed at 4. My lazy start cost me a coffee (I didn't even start riding until noon). That is what happens when you wake up at 10am.
Fortunately, just a few miles down the road, I ran into the Otter Creek Marina & RV. On Google it is listed as a gas station, but there is a tiny cafe inside.
They poured me a hot cup of coffee and made a fantastic Philly Cheesesteak. I rarely take photos of food, but this really hit the spot. So much better than the peanut butter wrap I was planning on eating (it would be the third of the day...).
Oh, and the sandwich came with tater-tots!
Plus, everyone at the cafe / gas station was cheerful and interested in my bike ride.
If you ever happen to be driving on Utah State Route 22, I suggest you stop.
I rode for another hour or two, until about thirty minutes past sunset, and found a nice little dirt road with an open area to setup my tent.
The sky was magnificent.
