Day 25, Amy

This is Amy.

She drove me 40 miles down an impassable section of road into town.

Earlier

After packing up camp on some BLM land, I started on the highway traveling south and was hit with a 30+ mph headwind.

Despite accepting that the wind is usually working against me, this was near impossible to ride.

Then the shoulder disappeared. Due to the construction on the highway, lanes were closed and reopened every mile or so, and the shoulder was pure gravel.

So I got off and walked.

I was really looking forward to breakfast at a diner I found the night before, but it took me over 2 hours to get there. It was less than 10 miles away from camp.

Upon entering the diner, I was greeted by the friendly staff, ordered some coffee and a breakfast burrito and contemplated my next move.

My waitress, Amy, after I explained the bike ride and the wind, instantly offered to drive me into town after her shift. So, I completely disassembled my bike to fit in the back seat of her car and around noon, we headed into town.

I am incredibly grateful and thankful to have met Amy. She is a wonderful person; her generosity and kindness towards a complete stranger is truly amazing and inspiring. I strive to be more like her.

I gave her a big hug before we parted ways in Kingman, where I rebuilt my bike and headed towards a local campground for the night.

People are incredible

On a side note (and a bit of a segway), downtown Kingman was packed with people attending a car show with hundreds of classics.

This was my favorite.
