Day 20, goodbye California, hello Arizona

I finally crossed the border of California into Arizona!

Today's ride was brutal. With nothing on the road for miles, I started early to beat the heat. That didn't work. By 730am it was already too hot.

Just about to leave camp

Thankfully, I stopped in at a historic gas station on Route 66, Roy's Motel, for a coffee and to top off my water bottles.

About halfway through the ride, I decided not to turn north through the Mojave National Preserve, due to the lack of projected water in that area. I knew there was water around Fenner, California - my new destination.

Lots of hills, same monotonous desert.

At the rest stop, I booked a room in the Bullhead City area. I figured that after the day was over, I wouldn't be able to setup camp, much less function.

Fighting to get down a hill with a nasty headwind

Anyways, I rode 118 miles. I'm proud of completing a century ride, but it was too much. Way too much.

I have a new resolution - shorter days. I got the century out of my system, now I need to keep the miles down in the future.
