The first week us over; Dave and I traveled roughly 280 miles.
We're currently camping in a city park in Guadalupe, California.
Today was another day of relentless rain. There was a brief lapse in the rainfall this morning to takedown camp. But, by the time we reached a McDonald's for a cup of coffee, the rain started again.
And it did not ease for the next few hours.
My crank arm has been coming loose and I found a solid bike shop in San Luis Obispo that might be able to help.
We set our course for Art's Cyclery and pedaled on. Their opinion is the interior of the crank arm, that attaches to the spindle, is a bit worn out. However, they tightened it down hard, and we were on our way.
Oh yeah, I bought some bike gloves (tired of applying sunscreen to the tops of my hands).
We wanted to ride out the pier at Pismo Beach; unfortunately it was closed.
I snapped a few photos instead:
After arriving in Guadalupe, I grabbed a Cookies 'n Creme milkshake from the local donut shop. Inside, two other patrons we're having a cup of coffee: Harry and Bendo.
During the second world war, Harry, Japanese, was interned at the camp at the age of sixteen, where Bendo was a guard. After being released, Harry immediately enlisted in the service. Both have lived in Guadalupe their whole lives.
I enjoyed listening to their stories and spry jokes.
And Bendo can name all 50+ of his great-great grand children!
Joe.
